About this place
Located in Minami-monzencho just east of the Gojo-dori Omiya crossing, Coffee Block offers a quiet neighbourhood respite from the early morning hours. True to its name, the interior exposes raw cinder-block walls, softened by playful panda accents that lend the room an unpretentious, relaxing atmosphere. The classic morning choice is the fried egg set, which pairs eggs cooked to your liking with ham or bacon, alongside crisp toast, tomato, lettuce, potato salad, banana yogurt, and a choice of coffee or tea. Toast can be ordered with butter or strawberry jam, setting an unhurried, nourishing pace for the start of the day.
When time permits a leisurely sweet breakfast, the French toast is prepared to order, baked gently over about 20 minutes. Guests can pick between 2 distinct finishes: rich honey with whipped cream and nuts, or a nutty dusting of kinako (roasted soybean flour) with cinnamon sugar. Light meals also extend beyond the morning plate, featuring toasted sandwiches filled with bacon, lettuce, and tomato, egg and ham combinations, and smaller half-sandwich sets suited to any appetite.
Those settling in for a longer read or a pause in their wanderings can turn to the oversized "naminami" drinks, which pour roughly 2 standard servings into a wide mug. Hot tea selections are brewed fresh rather than steeped from standard bags, and options like warming ginger tea offer a gentle, spicy kick. Opening at 9:30 and closing on Wednesdays and Thursdays, the café maintains a steady, tranquil rhythm throughout the week.
